Episode 290 - Graminy
Thursday Jan 30, 2014
Thursday Jan 30, 2014
Founded in 2010, Graminy seeks to fuse the classical and grassroots tradi- tions, from Bach to bluegrass, from Co- pland to Celtic, from Gershwin to native American, from Kodaly to klezmer, and more. Drawing on all these styles, Graminy composes and arranges all its music and calls it Class-Grass.
Graminy’s music focuses on themes of ecology and place. The name derives from the botanical name for the grass family, Gramineae, as their music draws on the entire family of grassroots tradi- tions, from all places and ecologies.
Their new CD, “Germinations: A Blue- grass Symphony in D” has been nominated for awards in several categories at this year’s MAMA Awards (Madison Area Music Awards).

Though their influences hail from much further south, the Oak Street Ramblers call home the East Side of Madison, WI. A bluegrass band in the tradition of Flatt and Scruggs, Jimmy Martin, and Hazel Dickens, the Oak Street Ramblers specialize in bluegrass stompers, classic country weepers, and originals that, lyrical content aside, wouldn't sound out of place at a barn dance circa 1954. http://www.reverbnation.com/theoakstreetramblers Video http://youtu.be/Sha-oQHGAl4
